"Die Libellen" am Ostbahnhof

S-Bahnhof Ostbahnhof, Berlin, 2024

A large-scale art commission by Dolores Zinny and Juan Maidagan has been unveiled at Berlin Ostbahnhof. The intervention on the two sides of the facade is designed to transform the entrance and entrance hall. "The fascinating interplay of colors and superimpositions of light invites all Berliners and guests to marvel. The artwork turns the modern but rather cool glass façade of Berlin East Station into a canvas for the imagination and the station into a gallery," according to Monika Jung, Station Manager of Berlin's main train stations. The artists have explained that “the design alludes to the juxtaposition of cities, hills, roads, rivers and mountains that the traveler observes through the train window on the way. It's a dream for us to work in a truly public space like this. It was important for us to create a work that simulates the movement and changing perspectives of the millions of passengers who pass through here.” At just over 500 square meters this is the sixth and most extensive artistic cooperation between DB and urKultur.
