Biographies of Modern Art, Brücke-Museum

The Brücke Museum is one of Berlin's most exciting small museums and winner of Germany's Museum of the Year 2023 Award. "Biographies of Modern Art: Collectors and Their Works” presenting eight visionary individuals and early supporters of the Brücke artists, all of whom were Jewish and many of whom were then forced into exile. The exhibition curated by Lisa Marei Schmidt together with Ruth Ur, weaves together the museum's provenance research, disputed artworks and the biographies of some of the original collectors. Among the fascinating figures are the art historian and dealer Victor Wallerstein, the salon hostess Elsa Glaser and the art historian Rosa Schapire. The exhibition features a specially commissioned mural by British German artist Sophie von Hellermann.
